The lives of wealthy men
Feed my dreams now and then.
They cut me to the quick
While they cut the cake again.
So loosen up your belts
For the fat years ahead
And I walk through an empty ward.
Now the wealthy patient's home
Let's put out the flags.
Throw his suitcase in the backroom
He won't be back.
And all the friends he found and lost
Are left behind to count the cost.
I was waiting days
For the watchman to call.
While the cavaliers caroused
With their sons in the hall.
And I said goodbye to you
Lonely widow, empty pall.
And I walked through an empty ward.
Now the wealthy patient's home...
